About Our

Green Sprouts PRogram

At The Fern Early Learning Centres, we embrace the Māori principle of Kaitiakitanga—the guardianship and care of the land. Through hands-on, nature-based experiences, children learn their important role in protecting the environment. From conserving water and planting trees to reducing waste, our Green Sprouts Program helps nurture a lifelong respect and responsibility for nature.

  • Connection with nature: Children learn Kaitiakitanga through natural sensory play, native planting, and caring for our centre gardens
  • Honouring water as a precious resource: We teach water conservation through rainwater harvesting and mindful water use, inspired by Māori and Indigenous Australian practices.
  • Caring for our living world: Children connect with local wildlife through nature incursions, insect observations, and safe animal interactions.
  • Growing a greener future: Through composting and upcycling,

children develop sustainable habits that help protect our planet.
